“Tokyo to New York”

Thomas Piercy, clarinet, Taka Kigawa, piano, et. al

Critically acclaimed clarinetist and hichiriki player Thomas Piercy will be joined by pianists Taka Kigawa and Judith Olson, Koto player Jun Ando, and Sho player Chatori Shimizu at “Tokyo to New York,” a concert featuring six world premiers and six U.S. premieres composed for Piercy by Tokyo- and NYC-based composers. The music – in a wide variety of styles – features premieres by Fernando Otero (Latin Grammy Award), Gilbert Galindo (Meet the Composer Van Lier Fellow), Jun Nagao (Takemitsu Award), David Del Tredici (Pulitzer Prize), and Ian Ng (ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award). Other world premieres on the program are by New York-based composer Lyudmilla German and Japanese composer Chatori Shimizu. U.S. premieres are by Tokyo composer Ippo Tsuboi and NYC composers Dana Richardson, Michael Rose, Richard Rosenfeld, and Russell Wimbish. Other works are by Masatora Goya, William Mayer, and Ned Rorem.
